Toronto Elephants, Come on Down!

Bob Barker has offered to help cover the Toronto Zoo's costs of moving three elephants to a reserve in the U.S.

Bob Barker will pony up with his own money to move three elephants from the Toronto Zoo to a sanctuary in the U.S. The former game-show host and long-time animal rights' activist has already spent $1.5 million moving elephants from northern zoos to places where the ground doesn't freeze, a constant concern for the health of the animals' feet. Four elephants have died at the Toronto Zoo since 2006, and the institution is considering shutting down the pachyderm exhibit to save some $40 million. Barker has also prominently offered $100,000 to an Edmonton zoo to move its only elephant, Lucy, but that zoo has declined the proposal.
