Former Tory MP Helena Guergis has only now found out why her party dismissed her a year ago.
The RCMP investigated former Conservative MP Helena Guergis at the behest of the Prime Minister's Office over baseless allegations from a private investigator that she and her husband were linked to “fraud, extortion, obtaining benefits by false pretences and involvement in prostitution” – as well as snorting cocaine off a stripper's breast – according to a letter obtained by the CBC. The Tories kicked Guergis from caucus last year because of the investigation, but the Ontario MP and former cabinet minister has maintained she was never informed of why she was turfed. And since the RCMP decided last July there was no merit to the allegations, why the prime minister's advisers put enough faith in the private investigator to act on the salacious charges remains unclear.
