The Liberal leader demands Harper explain how he’ll pay for health care.
In what he called an “open letter” to Canadians, Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff says a Liberal government will pump billions of dollars into Canadian health care once the current accord with the provinces ends in 2014, maintaining the six per cent escalator in health investment into the future. Ignatieff also challenged Conservative Leader Stephen Harper to explain how he will pay for rising health-care costs, and demanded to know the PM’s views on the future of medicare, given his past as a private citizen. Harper once advocated for more private provisions of health services and called for the Canada Health Act to be scrapped when he was the head of the National Citizens Coalition.
