Liberal Candidate Founded White-Rights Group

André Forbes won't be running for the Liberals this election.

Someone might want to tell the Liberals to run a background check on the people they pick to be their candidates, because Forbes’s racist background is a matter of public record. He founded a group called l’Association des droits des blancs, or the Association for the Rights of Whites, and was quoted in L’actualite in 2004 calling First Nations people “featherheads.” Other news stories from 2002 record him alleging that the federal government places the rights of native people over those of other Canadians. Forbes’s past was revealed in an NDP press release sent out Wednesday, and Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff immediately responded by saying Forbes’s views don’t represent the Liberal Party. Forbes was the Liberal candidate for the Manicouagan riding in Quebec, but has now been booted from the party.
