The $8-billion plan would provide $1,000 to post-secondary school students and set up employment insurance for those caring for sick relatives.
The Liberal party published its full campaign platform Sunday and, assuming you’d rather not read all 94 pages of it, here are the highlights: a $1.2-billion fund to help provinces create child-care facilities; a $1,350 tax credit for those caring for sick family members; a $1-billion fund to give allotments of $1,000 to university and college students; an expansion of the Canada Pension Plan; and a $13,500 tax credit for homeowners who make energy-saving renovations. The Grits are calling it a “family-first” platform in an effort to contrast it with Conservative plans focused on military acquisitions, corporate tax cuts, and the building of prisons. The Tories say that there’s no way to fund the Liberals’ plans without increasing the deficit.
