The president is calling on the grassroots groups that backed his historic 2008 campaign to mobilize again.
The fact that he doesn’t have an opponent yet didn’t stop Barack Obama from kicking off his re-election bid this past weekend. With the Republicans still grasping at straws to come up with a candidate capable of winning back the presidency, Obama launched his re-election website and sent an email to supporters urging them to work “block-by-block” to help him win in 2012. He also said he has begun the process of filing the necessary papers with the Federal Electoral Commission. In the 2008 campaign, Obama proved adept at amassing contributions from individual donors inspired by his message of change, and some analysts predict he could net a record $1 billion this time around.
