Jack King tried to coerce one of his clients into having sex with his wife, who is now a provincial court judge.
King pleaded guilty to three counts of professional misconduct Monday, seemingly putting an end to a bizarre scandal that rattled the Manitoba legal community. In 2003, King solicited a client named Alexander Chapman to have sex with his wife by showing him explicit photos of her. Chapman rebuffed the offer and, years later, went public about it, despite taking a cash settlement to keep quiet. King’s wife, Lori Douglas, became a Court of Queen’s Bench judge in 2005, and has been removed from cases until the Canadian Judicial Council completes a review of her conduct. The Law Society of Manitoba let King off with a reprimand, but ordered him to pay the society’s cost of $13,650 for hearing the case.
