NBC News has confirmed the screen legend has died in Los Angeles.
Reports are coming in that actress Elizabeth Taylor has died at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Taylor had been in poor health for years, and was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2004. She was confined to a wheelchair for the past five years after breaking her back. Taylor became famous at the age of 12 for her role in National Velvet and went on to win Academy Awards for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf and Butterfield 8. She was just as well-known for her colourful off-screen life, which included eight marriages and two stints in rehab in the 1980s for drug and alcohol addiction. She had been in and out of hospital for several months.
