Anthony Robles was born without a right leg.
Forget March Madness. The real star of the NCAA this past weekend was a determined young man from Arizona State University. Despite his disability, Robles was hardly an underdog going into the national college wrestling championship in Philadelphia Saturday. He was undefeated in the 2010-2011 season, and took only a matter of seconds to bring his Iowa State opponent, Matt McDonough, to the mat in the championship match. Robles began wrestling as a 90-pound freshman in high school and admits he was initially terrible at the sport. But relentless training and an upper body strengthened by years of using crutches turned him into a 125-pound wunderkind. He’s reportedly considering a career in motivational speaking after graduation.
