Former Miss Canada to Host Sun News Network Show

Neelam Verma will anchor First Look, the new channel’s morning news show.

“Wow what a way to wake up!” That’s how the press-release-style article in the Toronto Sun begins today, announcing that 2002’s Miss Canada has joined the country’s newest 24-hour news network. Verma was also a finalist in the Miss Universe contest, but the Sun is careful to point out she’s more than a beauty queen. She began her journalistic career at CNN International in India and more recently hosted a current events show in Canada on OMNI. The Sun News Network continues to roll out details of its programming, which is set to begin broadcasting April 18 to much fanfare and not a bit of controversy. Some speculate the right-wing network could lead to a polarized, U.S.-style political debate in Canada.
