The film satirizing the life of Canada’s 18th prime minister will hit the big screen next month.

Pairing an unpopular politician with an unpopular art form hardly seems like a recipe for success, but producers of Mulroney: the Opera hope they’ve hit on a winning combination with their quirky film. The movie, which stars Gemini award-winner Rick Miller as the strong-chinned prime minister, will be shown in Canadian theatres April 16 and 17 and is being billed as “a unique viewing experience for film, opera, and political satire lovers,” with “unique” being the operative word. Other recognizable faces in the film include veteran comedian Colin Mochrie as Jean Chrétien and oddball humorist Sean Cullen as cabinet minister Robert Coates.
