Another G20 Investigation Reopened

The Special Investigations Unit is looking into allegations that police shoved Kenny Fernandes to the ground and tasered him in the mouth.

Fernandes, a 42-year-old financial analyst, said he was at the G20 protests last June out of curiosity, but ended up being trampled by police, tasered, and arrested. The SIU initially interviewed police and civilian witnesses in his case but closed the investigation in November, citing a lack of evidence. The case has now been reopened after the Reuters news agency handed footage of police arresting Fernandes over to the SIU last week, making it the fourth incident of alleged police misconduct at the G20 that has been reopened as a result of the public or the media coming forth with new evidence. Critics claim police witnesses are refusing to assist investigations into security forces’ conduct at the summit.
