The Montreal Canadiens’ Max Pacioretty suffered a concussion and fractured vertebra after being leveled by the Bruins’ Zdeno Chara.
Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff is going to have his hands full in the next little while, but he took time out of bashing the Conservatives Wednesday to send a warning to the NHL. He said that if the league doesn’t take action to protect its players from concussions, Parliament might have to intervene. His comments came the day after Max Pacioretty was left with potentially career-ending head and spinal injuries as a result of a hit from 6’ 9 defenceman Zdeno Chara. The NHL decided Wednesday not to punish Chara for the hit because officials felt it was unintentional, a decision that Pacioretty told reporters he was “disgusted” by. Montreal police have been flooded with calls to investigate the incident.
