The opposition says Jason Kenney is using his post as immigration minister to drum up support among new Canadians.
In what is becoming somewhat of a theme of late, the opposition parties are hammering a Conservative minister for using his office for political purposes rather than for representing Canadians. The latest target is Jason Kenney, who has come under fire after it was revealed he used ministerial letterhead to send out a donation appeal asking supporters to fund a campaign targeting “highly ethnic” communities. Kenney’s apologized and fired the staffer who printed the letter, but the opposition says the larger issue is that instead of representing the interests of immigrants, the immigration minister is trying to win their votes. Deputy NDP leader Thomas Mulcair said Kenney “broke every conceivable rule” about partisanship and called for his resignation.
