The right-wing news channel will hit the airwaves in six weeks.

Are you ready for some “straight talk?” A spokesperson for Canada’s newest 24-hour news network has confirmed the channel is ready to go and will be beamed into Canadian living rooms starting April 18. But even before it has broadcast a second of programming the Sun News Network has polarized Canadians. Thousands of people filed complaints with the CRTC, imploring the regulator to deny the network a licence on the grounds that it would debase political discourse in the country in the same way Fox News has lowered the bar in the U.S. The network was supposed to launch in January but faced several obstacles, including a spat with the CRTC, the temporary resignation of director Kory Teneycke, and unexpected costs.
