A fresh wave of demonstrations has hit the Libyan capital.
In what has become a weekly ritual across the Middle East and North Africa, after Friday prayers over a thousand people streamed from a mosque in eastern Tripoli and marched through the streets. Demanding the ouster of Moammar Gadhafi, they chanted “Gadhafi is the enemy of God!” despite a heavy security presence in the city and fears of another violent crackdown. Reports indicate Gadhafi loyalists fired tear gas and then live ammunition at the protesters, but it is unclear if anyone was hurt. Pitched battles continue in strategic cities across the country and while rebel forces appear able to hold on to positions they’ve seized they lack the capacity to move on Gadhafi’s stronghold in Tripoli.
