In an apparent breach of election rules Jason Kenney’s office sent out fundraising appeals on ministerial letterhead.
A week after Elections Canada charged two Conservative senators with breaches of campaign finance regulations, the Tories have another regulatory scandal to deal with. A staffer in Kenney’s office sent out a fundraising package outlining the party’s plans to target “ethnic” ridings in the next election that included a donation appeal on parliamentary letterhead, which the NDP’s Pat Martin said is a clear violation of rules that say government resources cannot be used for partisan purposes. The staffer has resigned and Kenney apologized, but Martin demanded that the immigration minister also step down. The letter was discovered when the fundraising package was mistakenly delivered to NDP MP Linda Duncan, whom Tory staffers apparently mistook for Conservative John Duncan.
