Ontario Man Captured by Taliban

The Department of Foreign Affairs says Colin Rutherford was in Afghanistan as a tourist.

As far as vacation spots go, Afghanistan is not high on the list for most Canadians. But Foreign Affairs has confirmed Rutherford was in the country of his own volition, denying Taliban claims that he is a Canadian spy. Rutherford is believed to have been captured in Ghazni City, where he had been living for over a month and attracted attention despite dressing himself in Afghan clothes. A Taliban spokesperson told the CBC that Rutherford is being kept in a safe place and the militants will soon release a video of him. The Taliban claims to have confiscated documents from Rutherford that prove he is a government agent.
