According to the diaries of Warren Jeffs, the two fathers were intent on adding their daughters to his 57-women harem.

Jeffs is the former leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and is currently facing charges of bigamy and sexual assault in the U.S. In 2005 he was 50-years-old, and according to his diary was “yearning” to “seal” his marriage to two 12-year-old girls from the Mormon community of Bountiful, B.C. Jeffs’s diary details how McRea and Spencer Blackmore, two fathers from the reclusive town, smuggled their daughters across the border to a secret hiding place, and eventually delivered the two girls to him in Texas. He was already married to 57 women. The revelation of the alleged plot comes as a B.C. court is hearing testimony to decide whether Canada’s bigamy laws are constitutional.
