The next version of the tablet computer could give Apple a boost amid concerns about the health of CEO Steve Jobs.

When Apple shareholders convene for a meeting Wednesday, Jobs’s deputy Tim Cook will be leading the proceedings. Jobs announced he was taking his third medical leave of absence in seven years last month, sparking concern that the company could be operating without its innovative mastermind indefinitely. Rumours that production of the new iPad could be delayed two months also hit the corporation recently, causing a three-per-cent drop in its shares. Those rumours were unfounded however, and Cook is expected to announce Wednesday that the second generation of iPads will be unveiled at an event on March 2. The iPad was the single hottest piece of technology last year, selling 15 million units.
