The Reseau du resistance du Quebec promises to make to make the couple’s Canadian tour as “unpleasant as possible.”
The soon-to-be married couple reportedly chose Canada for their first official international visit because it remains one of the Commonwealth countries most friendly to the monarchy. But the Quebec leg of the pair’s summer visit could be a little rocky, with one nationalist group planning protests to show its lingering resentment over what it considers the British monarchy’s historical crimes, including the deportation of 12,500 Acadians in 1775. The Reseau du resistance du Quebec is the same organization that threatened violence over a planned recreation of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in 2008, and spokesman Patrick Bourgeois said Will and Kate’s rumoured visit to Montreal and Quebec City in July will be met with strong but nonviolent opposition.
