Christine Ouimet ignored summons to appear before the Commons Public Accounts Committee this week.
Mrs. Ouimet, it’s time to face the music. That’s the message outraged MPs are sending to the former public sector integrity commissioner after she failed to show at her scheduled appearance before the Public Accounts Committee this week. Ouimet resigned suddenly on Oct. 18, three years into her seven-year term as the head bureaucrat tasked with protecting government whistleblowers. Of the 228 cases presented to her during her tenure, only seven were investigated and none were acted on. Since retiring she has vanished from public view, and bailiffs sent to her home have been unable to locate her. Cars registered to her and her husband are in the home’s driveway, the Christmas decorations remain up, and the shutters are closed.
