Egyptian Protestors Call for General Strike

A “March of Millions” is being planned for Tuesday as anti-government protestors seek to re-energize their efforts to oust Hosni Mubarak.

Changes President Hosni Mubarak has made to his government have failed to placate protestors, who are still out on the Egyptian streets in large numbers demanding his resignation. Fifty thousand people reportedly remain in Cairo’s Tahrir square. A week of protests has prompted only mild reforms in Mubarak’s cabinet, with the president appointing a new prime minister and vice president. With many observers predicting that Mubarak intends to outwait the demonstrations until they lose momentum, protestors are reportedly planning a “March of Millions” Tuesday to reinvigorate the movement. There are also tentative plans to stage a general strike to bring the national economy to standstill and force Mubarak’s hand.
