Staff at the Canadian Embassy in Cairo are working overtime to get Canadians out of the protest-gripped country.
One hundred Canadians were at the Cairo airport Monday waiting to get on board a flight bound for Europe, but reportedly the flight had been delayed amid chaotic scenes at the airport terminal. Canadian government officials have organized the flights to get Canadian nationals out of Egypt, with widespread reports of gunfire and looting in the country, which is entering its seventh day of anti-government protests. Two flights were scheduled for Monday, both headed to Frankfurt, Germany. Where Canadian evacuees go from there is up to them. Reportedly, all evacuees must sign a form before boarding the chartered flights out of Egypt promising to pay the government back for the cost of their passage.
