Mandela Admitted to Hospital

The ruling party says the former South African president was hospitalized for routine tests, but many are concerned about the 92-year-old’s health.

There was an outpouring of support on Facebook and Twitter Wednesday as South Africans sent out their best wishes for the leader who helped free the country from apartheid. Mandela retired from public life in 2004 and hasn’t been seen since the final of the World Cup last summer, when he looked noticeably frail. While the ruling ANC party has called for calm, a steady stream of VIPs is reportedly visiting Mandela in the Johannesburg hospital he was admitted to yesterday, fueling fears that he is seriously ill. President Jacob Zuma is currently in Davos, Swizterland for World Economic Forum talks and has shown no signs of returning home.
