Sun Sea Human Trafficking Suspect Arrested in Thailand

Thai authorities say Nadesan Jeeyananthan was involved in the operation that brought 492 Tamil migrants to Canada aboard the rusting ship.
Score one for Jason Kenney. After the Sun Sea migrant ship arrived in British Columbia last August, the immigration minister went to Asia to press authorities there to crack down on smuggling operations, and it appears to have worked. Sunday Thai police arrested Jeeyananthan, a suspected member of a smuggling ring that involved in the Sun Sea operation and other attempts to send Tamils to Canada. There are currently six RCMP officers and one Canadian security official in Thailand, but it is unclear what role they played in the arrest. The Conservative government views migrant ships as a security threat, and believes that members of the Tamil Tiger militant group may have been among the Sun Sea passengers.
