Security camera footage shows Judge John Roll died while saving the life of one of Gabrielle Giffords’s employees.
“Brief and gory” is how the New York Times is describing surveillance footage of the Jan. 8 shooting spree in Tucson that left six people dead and 13 others wounded. The footage, which has not been released to the public, reportedly shows Jared Lee Loughner rushing up to Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and shooting her above the eye at close range before turning his gun on the crowd. Judge John Roll is seen pushing Giffords staffer Ronald Barber to the ground and shielding him with his body. Roll was shot in the back and died, while Barber sustained two gunshots but survived. Roll was 63 years old and the highest-ranking federal judge in Arizona.
