CBC Demands Conservatives Remove File Footage from Attack Ads

  • First Posted: Jan 19 2011 09:05 AM

The broadcaster says its footage should not be used in partisan advertisements.

The Liberals weren’t the only ones offended by the Conservatives’ new ads. The CBC is in a tiff because it says the party never requested permission to use its footage in its new campaign-style commercials, which were posted on the internet and broadcast on TV Monday. Three of the ten ads contain footage shot by the CBC. Marco Dube, a spokesman for the broadcaster, said that it’s CBC policy that its material not be used in partisan advertising, and that the Conservatives will soon receive a letter formally requesting that the CBC content be removed. The ads, which seek to discredit Michael Ignatieff and Jack Layton, were seen as a sign that the Conservatives are preparing for a federal election.
