Gervais Says He Won’t Host Golden Globes Again

Twice is enough, says the acerbic comedian.

It’s probably easy to reject a job when you know you’re not going to be offered it. British comedian Ricky Gervais said he doesn’t want to host the Golden Globe Awards again, but insisted it had nothing to do with his controversial performance at the ceremony Sunday night. His pointed jibes divided critics, with some saying that remarks about John Travolta and Tom Cruise’s sexuality went too far, as did references to the Hollywood Foreign Press’s elderly president Philip Burke getting off the toilet. Burke said Monday that aspects of Gervais’s performance were “totally unacceptable.” Gervais also hosted the Golden Globes in 2010.
