Temperatures across the country were 3 C higher than usual.
Could it be? Was Al Gore was right along? Environment Canada has released its year-end report, making official what climatologists had been predicting for months: last year was the hottest since 1948, when records were first kept. On average, temperatures were 3 C higher than normal, and in Nunavut and Quebec they were 4 C above average, prompting some to describe a northern heat wave in Canada’s arctic. Only an area in northern Alberta and Saskatchewan experienced near-normal temperatures. The report made no mention of greenhouse gasses, but climate change proponents have predicted that Canada will undergo drastic warming if emissions are not reduced. Four of Canada's ten warmest years on record have occurred in the past decade.
