B.C. RCMP Officers Charged With Assault

Two Coquitlam officers allegedly assaulted a driver at a routine traffic stop.
The incident took place last June when Const. Marko Duran, 38, and Const. Trevor Doylend, 33, stopped a man for speeding. While issuing him a ticket, an altercation took place that ended up with the driver being removed from his vehicle. The driver never filed a complaint but pair’s supervising officer thought the report of the incident looked suspicious and reviewed videotape of the incident shot automatically by a camera inside their cruiser. Seven months after the fact, Duran and Doylend have now been charged with assault. High profile incidents of police misconduct have been in the news recently, with assault allegations hitting Toronto G20 officers and video of officers beating a woman in custody rocking the Ottawa force.
