The Liberals and Conservatives deliver some parting shots as the last legislative session of 2010 wraps up.
The year began with a prorogued Parliament and is ending with all parties blaming each other for a lack of legislative progress in 2010. The current parliamentary session adjourns today until Jan. 31, and at a year-end press conference yesterday the Liberals blasted the government’s year of “grinding mediocrity,” citing everything from Canada’s record-breaking deficit to the G20 riots in Toronto and the controversial decision to buy F-35 fighter jets. The Tories responded by blaming the Liberals for holding up important legislation, like the new anti-crime bills. Despite all the heated rhetoric, a poll released today shows that the Liberals and Conservatives are virtually tied in popular support, lessening the chances that there will be an election any time soon.
