WikiLeaks Supporters Hack Swedish Government Website

PayPal, MasterCard, and Visa have also been targeted after refusing to process donations to the whistleblowing site.

If you’re planning on doing your Christmas shopping on Amazon.com, you might want to place your order soon. The bookstore’s website might be next in line for a coordinated cyber attack by a group of WikiLeaks supporters that has already brought down the Swedish government’s website and disrupted MasterCard’s online traffic. The cadre of “hacktivists” calls itself Anonymous and has targeted Sweden because of its attempted prosecution of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange on sex crimes. PayPal and MasterCard no longer process donations to the site, and because Amazon.com recently removed WikiLeaks content from its sites it could be the next target. Assange is currently in a British jail while he fights extradition to Sweden.
