Troops undergoing a sex change must dress as their “target” gender, according to a newly released policy.
Not to brag here, but while the U.S. is still trying to figure out whether or not to allow gays in their military, the Canadian Forces are drafting rules to ensure the inclusion of transsexual soldiers. The Department of National Defence already pays for the sex changes of Canadian troops, believing that soldiers marginalized because of their sexuality are at risk for psychological problems. Now the military has added a supplementary chapter to their administration manual that clears up any ambiguities about transsexual military dress by saying soldiers must conform to the dress code of their “target” gender, even before they complete a sex change. Critics say the regulations are out of touch with the military’s immediate needs during wartime.
