“Voice of Toronto,” CityTV’s Mark Dailey Dies

The veteran broadcaster has died of prostate cancer at the age of 57.

Tributes are pouring in this morning for Mark Dailey, who died Monday after losing his second battle with cancer. An anchor, journalist, and possibly the greatest voice-over man in Canadian television, Dailey graced the TV screens of Torontonians every night for 30 years and became the signature personality of CityTV. He’ll be best remembered for his baritone voice and his dry wit, but Toronto’s night owls will remember him fondly for the hilarious fills he recorded to introduce CityTV’s late night programming, when viewership was so low he could pretty much say anything. An Ohio native, Dailey served briefly as a state trooper before switching to journalism in 1974. He joined the CityPulse news team five years later.
