A motorist has been arrested for multiple homicide after plowing into a group of riders on a country road.
The tragic accident occurred Sunday morning when a driver attempted to pass another car on a two-lane road near the town of Lamezia Terme. He pulled into the second lane and ran head-first into a group of 10 cyclists, killing eight of them and injuring two more. Visibility was good at the time but police said the man tested positive for marijuana. He and a young passenger traveling with him were treated for minor injuries, and police have arrested him for multiple homicide. The accident will remind some of a similar crash on a highway outside of Montreal in May, in which three cyclists were killed when their group was hit by a pick-up truck.
