  • First Posted: Nov 30 2010 08:59 AM

An unidentified 15-year-old is being treated for life-threatening injuries after holding 24 people hostage in his high school classroom.

A teenager in the town of Marinette, WI is believed to have taken over his classroom shortly after 3 pm yesterday, holding 23 students and his teacher captive for five hours before turning his gun on himself. Police stormed the classroom at 8 pm after they heard several gunshots but found the gunman was the only person who had been harmed. They would not disclose where the gunman shot himself but said his injuries were serious. The teenager, who can’t be identified because of his age, was described as popular and a good student, and made no demands during the ordeal. He let five hostages go moments before he shot himself. Police found two guns in the room, as well as a duffel bag full of ammunition.
