Winning quarterback Anthony Calvillo revealed moments after the game that he may have thyroid cancer.
For the second straight year the Montreal Alouettes defeated the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL’s championship game, becoming the first team to win consecutive titles since the Toronto Argonauts did it in 1996-97. The Al’s Avon Cobourne had two touchdowns in the 21-18 victory. A fresh drama unfolded at a press conference after the game, when Alouette’s QB Anthony Calvillo said that doctors found a lesion on his thyroid in August. A biopsy was inconclusive and doctors let him play out the season, but he’ll be having surgery soon to remove the lesion along with half of his thyroid. The victory was Calvillo’s third Grey Cup win in eight years with the Alouettes.
