G20 officers facing discipline over name badges

At least 90 Toronto police removed their name badges during the summit so they couldn’t be identified.
Speaking before a Commons public safety committee yesterday, Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair said that after receiving several complaints that officers hid their identities, his department launched an investigation that found at least 90 officers had removed their name badges. He said the officers had been identified and they will be penalized, likely by the loss of a day’s pay, which for most officers is $300. Allegations of police misconduct during the summit are legion, and of the 1,100 protestors arrested charges have been dropped against all but a dozen. A $45-million class action suit has been filed against the police by protestors who say they were detained for hours without food, counsel, or having been read their rights.
