Mariam Makhniashvili’s brother reported missing

The brother of the Toronto girl who disappeared 14 months ago is now home safe.

Vakhtang Makhniashvili reported his son George missing last night after the 17-year-old never came home from school. Police found him at 5:15 am on Tuesday. While it’s not unusual for a teenager to disappear for a few hours, it is the latest twist in a case that has stumped police. Mariam Makhniashvili vanished on Sept. 14, 2009 after walking to school with George. He is the last person to have seen her a live. Despite a massive search police found only her backpack a few blocks away and she has never been located. In May, her father was charged with stabbing one of his neighbours, making this the family’s third brush with police in just over a year.
