Giants bring first World Series to San Francisco

The team of self-described misfits beat the Texas Rangers 3-1 to take the title for the first time since moving to California.
The New York Giants won the 1954 World Series thanks to a legendary catch by Willie Mays. Four years later the team moved to San Francisco, and despite three trips to the World Series since then failed to capture the title until last night in Texas. Shaggy-haired ace Tim Lincecum bamboozled Rangers batters for eight innings before closer Brian Wilson threw a perfect ninth, striking out Nelson Cruz to seal a 4-1 series victory. The game was a cagey stalemate until Edgar Renteria hit a three-run homerun in the seventh. It turned out to be all the Giants needed, as the Rangers could only manage one run despite boasting the best batting average in baseball during the regular season.
