Daniel Dion’s body was found in the trunk of a burnt-out car near Acapulco.

An Ottawa resident, Dion was in Mexico on business related to his company called Ecopurse Mexico, which employs Mexican prison inmates to manufacture purses from recycled materials. He was last seen headed to a restaurant with a business associate on Oct. 22. His family became worried when stopped making his daily phone calls home, and flew to Mexico to help authorities with their investigation. On Sunday his remains were found 130 km from the resort town of Acapulco in the trunk of his rental car, which had been set ablaze with him inside. No ransom request was ever received from his kidnappers. His family said he regularly carried between USD$500 and USD$5,000 in cash.
