B.C. premier charges taxpayers $240,000 to worsen his reputation

Forty-three per cent of voters liked Gordon Campbell less after he went on prime time TV to announce income tax cuts.

Campbell’s popularity has plummeted since he decided to implement the Harmonized Sales Tax shortly after being elected, even though during his campaign he said he had no plans to do so. On Wednesday his government used taxpayer money to buy $240,000 worth of TV airtime that he used to announce a 15 per cent income tax cut. He was hoping the move would help his slumping popularity, but according to a poll 43 per cent of voters liked him less after the TV spot. Opposition parties are calling the price tag outrageous and demanding why he didn’t simply make the tax cut announcement in the legislature.
