The American actor and his wife say they want asylum in Canada because they fear they’ll be killed by “Hollywood star whackers.”

The latest threat to Canada’s soft-on-refugee immigration system is apparently that guy who played the weird uncle in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. The Canadian Border Services Agency has confirmed Quaid and his wife Evi are still in jail despite being cleared for release last Friday. The pair were arrested in Vancouver on California warrants for defrauding an innkeeper, but in a bizarre twist told a court on Friday that they believe a cabal of murderers had killed friends of theirs in Hollywood, including Heath Ledger, Chris Penn, and Keith Carradine (who is still alive). The Quaids said they fear they will be the next target of the “star whackers” and want to start a new life in Canada.
