Ugandan paper publishes list of “top 100 homosexuals”

A publication called the Rolling Stone has printed the names and addresses of gay Ugandans under the headline “Hang Them.”

Uganda’s homosexual community has been under a fresh round of attacks in the two weeks since the story was published. Some gay men reported being unable to leave their homes as stone-throwing mobs awaited them outside. Aside from publishing the photos, names, and addresses of people believed to be gay, the paper also alleged that a deadly disease was sweeping through the gay community and that homosexuals were recruiting children through targeted raids on schools. Uganda is not a great place to be gay. Last year a Ugandan MP introduced a bill that would make some homosexual acts punishable by death and others by life imprisonment. It was never passed but gay Ugandans have faced increased discrimination since.
