Disagreements with the Canadian Olympic Committee have led to mass resignations at the fundraising agency.
The entire board of the foundation quit in mid-September, but details of a spat with the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) are only emerging now. Board members, which included high-profile figures like Jean Chrétien’s daughter France Chrétien Desmarais and former Manitoba premier Gary Filmon, have said that the board had disagreements with the COC over what the money they raised would be used for and decided to quit en masse. Canadian Olympic Foundation fundraising initiatives like the Red Mitten campaign are credited with helping boost Canada’s medal haul at the Vancouver Olympics. The COC says that the search for new board members won’t hurt fundraising initiatives that are currently underway.
