The intelligence agency continues their file on the ex-Beatle thirty years after his death.

In 1976 Lennon’s fingerprints were taken as part of his application for U.S. citizenship. His fingerprint card was set to go on auction this week, but two days ago agents from the FBI and Department of Homeland Security raided the New York City memorabilia shop where it was being kept and confiscated it. The card was supposed to fetch over $100,000 at auction. The U.S. government famously investigated Lennon during the 1970s for his connections to left-wing groups, but ultimately determined he was too addicted to drugs to pose any serious threat to national security. A spokesman for the FBI said the card was taken to determine how government property ended up in a shopkeeper’s hands.
