The latest poll has the two main parties gaining ground at the expense of the NDP.
An EKOS poll commissioned by the CBC says that 33.1 per cent of Canadians intend to vote for the Conservatives, with the Liberals a close second at 29.9 per cent. Support for the NDP has dropped to 13.3 per cent, compared to around 16 per cent two weeks ago. The dip has been attributed to party leader Jack Layton convincing his MPs to save the long gun registry, a move that was unpopular in rural regions. A separate poll found that given the option of a minority Liberal-led coalition government, a majority Liberal government, a minority Conservative government, or a majority Conservative government Canadians would prefer a coalition.
