The director urges Alberta to “do it right.”
If James Cameron were to make a movie about the oil sands it would tell the story of a people who have been given a great gift, and then they find out that might also be a curse. That's (sort of) what he said yesterday after concluding a much-publicized three-day tour of the oil sands. He urged the Alberta government to hold off on further development until the full environmental impact of the industry is known, but said that if managed properly the oil sands could be a boon for the province’s people. Cameron met with officials from government, industry, and native groups, and while striking a magnanimous tone, his support clearly lies with aboriginals who say the oil sands are toxic.
