Sicily, New Jersey … and Thunder Bay?

Prosecutors in the Calabria region of Italy have detailed connections between mobsters in the city of Siderno and residents of Thunder Bay, Ontario. In July Italian authorities arrested 305 suspects in Italy who are believed to be part of the ‘Ndrangheta organized crime ring, and among them were several Canadian citizens and residents. In their report, Italian prosecutors say there was a cell of mobsters in Thunder Bay who had not been criminally active for years but were aggressively recruiting members and planning on reviving their operation. Siderno and Thunder Bay have had ties since Italian immigrants traveled there to build railroads in the 1890s. Police in Thunder Bay say they’re looking into the Italian reports.
